RTLS badges and tags use infrared (IR), ultrasound, or Wi-Fi (802.11) signaling technology to identify the current location of people (i.e., patients, staff, and visitors) and equipment. The safe, invisible, non-interfering digitized signals relay the badge's unique identification code to the system. The Personnel Alert Badge and ultrasound tags include one or two press buttons that when used can notify others that assistance is requested. All badges are water resistant (but not waterproof), have a motion sensor which helps preserve battery life, and have a low battery indicator.
