With more than 30 years of hands-on medical experience as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Gruby brought with him a wealth of real-world healthcare experience as the company was launched. Drawing from his experiences of implementing several new technologies to improve the processes and information access in his own practice, Dr. Gruby is a recognized expert in streamlining healthcare processes through the use of mobile wireless technologies and advanced workflow software applications. In his role at the company, Dr. Gruby is responsible for chairing the Board of Directors, providing market knowledge and direction to the company related to the healthcare space, providing input and assistance to the Intelligent InSites product team, and assisting in setting the company's strategy and goals.
Dr. Gruby is a member of the North Dakota Healthcare IT Steering Committee, a Board of Trustees member for the University of Mary, Medical Director for the University of Mary Athletic Trainer program, and a Fellow for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Texas.
Douglas J. Burgum – Board of Directors Doug’s professional career began in the early ’80s when he worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in its Chicago office. In 1983, he returned to his native North Dakota and literally “bet the family farm” when he provided the seed capital for Great Plains—then a very small startup company in the fledgling PC software industry. Shortly thereafter he became the company’s chairman and CEO. Driven by a strong vision and powerful dream, he led Great Plains to a worldwide presence and its successful initial public offering in 1997.
Recognizing and respecting Great Plains’ leadership position in the business applications software market, Microsoft Corporation acquired the company in 2001 for $1.1 billion. At the time, it was the largest acquisition Microsoft had ever completed.
Doug has served as an investor and board member of SuccessFactors, a cloud-based leader in business execution software, since October 2007 and as board chair since June 2010. SAP acquired SuccessFactors in February 2012 for $3.4 billion.
He currently serves as chairman and founder of Kilbourne Group, a company committed to inspiring and supporting the redevelopment of downtown Fargo. As co-founder and chairman of Arthur Ventures, he is actively involved in the venture capital fund’s investments in AltraVax, a bio-pharmaceutical company using next-generation technology for vaccine development, as well as in Intelligent InSites.
He was the largest initial outside seed investor in Take Care Health Systems (now known as Take Care Clinic),a startup company that changed the healthcare landscape. Formed in February 2006, Take Care Health Systems was acquired by Walgreens in May 2007.
Major General (Ret.)Terry Scherling– Board of Directors Major General Terry Scherling is the President and CEO of TENICA and Associates, LLC, a privately-held enterprise providing government services and consulting solutions in the area of national defense, homeland and cyber security to government and commercial clients.
Prior to establishing TENICA, she served as a special assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau, providing plans, programs and resources for more than 460,000 personnel across 54 states and territories supporting worldwide operations with an annual budget in excess of $23B.
Scherling has served on the Reserve Forces Policy Board, the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), the National Guard Joint Advisory Council, the Air National Guard Strategic Planning Steering Team, Support Group Commanders Council, the Logistics Strategic Planning Group, the United States Air Force Supply Executive Council, and the Army National Guard Logistics Executive Advisory Group.
She is currently serving on a military advisory board for FLIR Systems, a publically-held company and a global leader in infrared cameras, night vision and thermal imaging systems used for security and force protection by industrial, commercial and government activities in more than 60 countries.
David O’Hara is the Chief Operating Officer for Microsoft Advertising. Microsoft Advertising is the business platform that monetizes the Microsoft Advertising brand, generating over $4 billion in revenue annually. His team is responsible for the operations of the business, data analysis and insights, business development and partnerships as well as collaboration with the field sales force. The team is also engaged in driving decisions on long term strategy and opportunities.
Prior to his role in Microsoft Advertising, O’Hara was the managing director of Corporate Development for the Platform and Services Division (PSD) of Microsoft. PSD includes the Windows and On-line business units. Before that, O’Hara was vice president of Business Development at Microsoft® Business Solutions, a division of Microsoft Corp. that develops Enterprise Resource Planning and Customer Relationship Management solutions. O’Hara was Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions and Vice President for the International Division for Great Plains Software until 2001 when Great Plains was acquired by Microsoft.
Before joining Great Plains, O’Hara was president of ICONtrol Inc., a development partner acquired by Great Plains in 1998. Previous to joining ICONtrol Inc., he served as commissioner of economic development for the State of South Dakota.
O’Hara holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from the University of South Dakota.
Dr. Joseph Carlson – Board of Directors
Dr. Carlson is an accomplished medical doctor with over 19 years of experience as an orthopaedic surgeon, the last 14 years as a partner at the Bone &Joint Center in Bismarck, ND. Dr. Carlson has extensive research and teaching experience through his time serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. In 1999-2000, he was awarded the Wayne Swenson, M.D. award for teaching excellence. Dr. Carlson has also served as Team Physician for the University of Mary and the Dakota Wizards professional basketball team.
Dr. Carlson serves on the board of directors for the Bone & Joint Center, and is also a board member for the Bismarck Surgical Associates and the Delta Waterfowl organization. He received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of North Dakota, and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Akron Medical Center. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Carlson has served as a member of the Intelligent InSites board of directors since May 25, 2006.
Trevor Gruby – Board of Directors Since the inception of the company, Trevor Gruby has been responsible for designing and developing the InSites solution. With over a decade of experience in developing comprehensive healthcare solutions, Gruby is an expert in the areas of enterprise hosted medical systems as well as mobile wireless devices. His previous experience includes transactional web-tier development for UHC, designing and developing the security infrastructure for HealthNexis (an on-line durable medical goods exchange later acquired by GHX), and the development of a series of RxHub's services, including the master patient index. With a focused emphasis on clinical encounter automation, Gruby earned his Masters Degree in Software Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
